Anja Kotar is a Pop singer-songwriter, producer and classically trained pianist, writing signature sunshine-y Pop that blends relatable lyrics and timeless melodies in a pursuit of romanticizing life and the everyday experiences we encounter.
Anja was born and raised in Slovenia, then moved to California with her family 10 years ago. She has received her Master's Degree in Music Production from Berklee College of Music.
Anja's songs have received over 10 million streams across platforms and have been featured in magazines such as Earmilk, Wonderland, Notion, Paste, The Boyfriend Zine, The Line of Best Fit, The Music Connection, and CelebMix. Anja has over 20k loyal followers on Instagram and her single 'Movie' was used in a viral TikTok video with over 14 million views.
In 2022, Anja created a musical version of the calendar - releasing one song per month, named after that month. Tying in with her classical music background, each of the songs features an interpolation of a classical music piece (ex. ‘July’ is built around Habanera from Georges Bizet’s famed opera Carmen).
In 2023, Anja was writing, producing and gradually releasing her album 'Hopeless Romantic' that tells a romcom-inspired story about finding the love of your life. Anja's 2023 songs have been featured on Spotify's Finds and Fresh Finds Pop, New Pop Picks, Limelight, and Next Gen Singer-Songwriters.
In 2024, Anja is starting her new project ‘At the Bookstore’ which will culminate in an album of songs inspired by titles at bookstores. The first single, ‘Diver’, was released on January 25th.
Anja is writing, producing and recording all of the songs from her bedroom in Northern California.
